INGUIDE is a comprehensive, evidence-based, and up-to-date training program for guideline recommendation and development. It is the product of a joint partnership between leaders in the field of guideline development – Guidelines International Network (GIN), a global network of guideline producing organisations and guideline participants, and world-renowned experts in guideline research, development and implementation at McMaster University’s Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact.
The INGUIDE Program comprises four successive training courses that certify individuals to become guideline panel members, methodologists, chairs, and instructors. The core courses cover all aspects of guideline development, including planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and updating of practice guidelines. The courses are structured according to essential tools such as the GIN-McMaster Guideline Development Checklist tool and can be tailored to the needs of organisations and trainees.
Guideline Group or Panel Member Certification is a prerequisite for all higher-level certifications and is designed for individuals participating as a member of a guideline development group. Since its launch in September 2020, over 1000 learners have enrolled, and as of November 2022, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) members can obtain CME credits for the course.
Guideline Methodologist Certification is designed for individuals participating in a guideline development group in the role of expert methodologist and has over 200 learners since its launch in 2021. It is a prerequisite for level 3 certification.
Master Guideline Developer and Chair Certification is designed for individuals participating in a guideline development group in the role of chair or co-chair and has over 45 learners since its launch in 2022. It is a prerequisite for certification at level 4.
Guideline Development Instructor Certification is designed for individuals responsible for training prospective guideline development group members, methodologies, or chairs and is launching at the GIN conference.
“Our next steps include exciting opportunities with level 4 launching at the GIN Conference and more advanced modules being established on selected topics, such as guideline-based quality assurance, adolopment, in-depth GRADE, and others. This will create a global community of learning and competency-based assessment of guideline developers with magnificent input from our International Advisory Board. Our goals are to connect certified guideline developers even better, with each other and those in need of them” Dr. Holger Schünemann, Professor in HEI and Chair of the Steering Committee for the INGUIDE Program.
